When I started to write this week’s newsletter, I was stumped. How do you shove a full week of stuff into single email?
I thought it might help to take a look at an average day. Most days start at 7 a.m. with meetings of some sort. Most days end with a reception or dinner that goes until 8:30 or 9 p.m. In between, we try to pack as much work as possible into our schedules. Here’s what my Thursday looked like:
- Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce Weekly Call, 7 a.m. (full disclosure: I was 20 minutes late that morning)
- JFAC, 8 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
- House Floor, 11:00 a.m. – 11:35 a.m.
- Eastern Idaho Homebuilders Association Lunch, Noon
- Set up meetings with committee chairman to discuss potential bills, 12:30 p.m.
- Check voicemail & respond to email, 1 p.m.
- Resources & Conservation Committee Hearing, 1:30 – 3 p.m.
- Meetings with the committee chairman, 3 p.m.
- Work on budgets, 4 p.m.
- Idaho WWAMI Reception, 5:30 p.m.
- Idaho Outfitters & Guides Association Dinner, 6 p.m.
Each day is a little different from the one before, and each day comes with its own set of challenges. But each day presents a chance to do something for our district. Most of the time, it’s something as simple as replying to an email or returning a phone call. Other times, it involves tracking down information to help someone deal with a more complicated situation.
Whatever the task, it’s an excellent reminder of why I’m here in Boise.
